Building process.

As the LVL and I Joists are cut, assuming a foundation tolerance of +/- 5mm, the pre-cut sections should not need to be re-cut. This saves time for the carpenters on site and reduces timber waste.

Supply of assembly drawings together with the pre-cut labelled packs and sections reduces labour time and costs, the relevant sections are packed sequentially. Clear and simple marking of all packs and sections enables those less experienced to work on the erection of the building shell without the need for advanced carpentry skills. Under the supervision of one experienced carpenter or framer all workers on site, irrespective of experience or trade, can be deployed to build the frame.

Additionally using a flatpack system means that local workers can be used to avoid drafting in more highly skilled (often less available and more expensive) carpenters and timber framers. Using a local workforce also reduces transport costs and further reduces the project’s carbon footprint.

Where possible the creation of an on-site central hub or storage facility should be considered where sections can be pre-constructed on-site and then moved to the relevant plot/location when sufficient numbers have been made.
