Kithurst Construction Ltd was established in 2006, originally as a general building company but now specialises in the manufacture of high energy efficiency timber frames.

Kithurst have recently concluded a significant investment programme in a state-of-the-art factory facility at their base in West Sussex the new machine shops include a wide range of cutting machines specifically geared to the production of high-performance I Joist buildings. The recently installed plant includes a new Hundegger Turbo Drive CNC saw which has a flexible 5-axis blade unit which pivots at 360˚ and can tilt by 90˚ to make cuts at any angle and inclination. Kithurst offers a cut and label service, using 3D bvx files to create portal frames or panel/cassette components. These are flat-packed for assembly on-site.

This cutting service sits at the core of the We Build Eco system and follows extensive trials and research using the knowledge gained in the construction industry over the last 20 years. Walls and Roofs range from 160mm to 400mm thick using different I-joist depths with maximum finished lengths of 6m and 3m in height.

Prior to moving to the UK in 2006, Kithurst’s MD Antoine Constantini worked as a trouble-shooter for large construction projects globally. Antoine’s work in the UK started with the renovation and conversion of listed buildings using natural materials where possible to improve their performance. Antoine has, continually, adopted new building methods to try to provide more energy-efficient homes using natural materials to have regard to the full lifecycle of those materials. This has led to the increasing use of timber for the main structure of the building and then the change to the manufacturing of timber structures.

Antoine is a member of the Plate-forme Maison Passive (PMP). Antoine is passionate about Silviculture and timber in general, and how timber can be used to create a circular economy.

We endeavour to use materials efficiently and, therefore, to ‘play to their strengths’ by using the most suitable materials for the engineering problem at hand.

The Institution of Structural Engineers describes our work as both an art and a science. We seek to excel in both the creative and analytical aspects of engineering using hand-drawn sketches, CAD, or 3D modelling to communicate our design to our clients and coordinate with other design and construction team members.

As structural engineers, we are more than a little unusual in that we understand the principles of low-energy building, and the targets set out in low-energy standards such as PassivHaus. This means that we work to ‘fabric first’ principles, with details and materials that do not compromise the thermal performance and airtightness targets. We understand what you and your architect are trying to achieve(!) and we would love all buildings to be thought of and built this way.
